I was in a similar one near Pattaya, took a comprehensive tour to visit several attractions, considered that it was cheaper and did not have to stand in line, tour groups had priority. Perhaps there is a tour desk in the vicinity of your hotel, look at the prices there, it may also turn out to be more profitable than on your own + visiting several attractions near Phuket, similar to Pattaya.

How were you impressed in general? I've only seen pics

Well, such as part of the tour will go, as an independent (only a visit to the Temple) no, or rather, I would not waste time, with a complex exc. we also visited two zoos (state and private), a Chinese temple, an oyster farm and a visiting snake show.
In the temple itself, in addition to the statues, the heavenly ones were not very interested, but the hellish ones - there is something to see and think about. There was a Buddhist temple, just some kind of service was held with singing (quite interesting) and a pond with fish that you can feed, it is interesting to watch how they almost jump out of the water for a treat.

The Temple of Heaven and Hell is located near Chiang Mai. It is not in the city itself, sort of like 30 km. You can get to Chiang Mai from Phuket by Air Asia plane. Chiang Mai has a very beautiful golden temple on the mountain and an excellent zoo. For 2-3 days, that's it.

Located in Phang Nga. Right in the city. The bus goes from Phuket town, from the bus station, about an hour and a half. The monastery is called Wat Tham Ta Pan. The entrance is free. Works from 8 to 18.
I have not been to the monastery, but I have been to Phang Nga. There is a magnificent Elephant Cave and you can take a boat to Phang Nga Bay.
We rented a car, you can’t walk around the city, and I don’t know what goes there, inside the city of Phang Nga. The city is sprawling, low-rise.
It won't be cheaper with a travel agent.

Apparently there are several such temples in Thailand.

Of course a few, I described in Bang Saen, the top starter was interested in Phang Nga, and you described the one located in Chiang Mai;)

Been to this temple in PHANNGNGA. On the way to Khao Sok. I wouldn't go separately. There is not much to see there to drag yourself there from Phuket. But as part of a large excursion to Khao Sok - wonderful. There are many interesting places along the way, and the lake is magnificent at any time of the year. There were two times. In winter, fogs and relatively cool water +25. Wonderfully refreshing when bathing and around the plot from Avatar. Rhinos overhead. :-))) And in spring-summer very warm water +30 and huge dragonfly butterflies fly. I advise.
