Well, even if you are not indifferent, taking vodka with you and drinking it with some unfamiliar Turks is the last thing that comes to my mind on vacation))).
аватар haber-x
Perhaps the author means the sale))
аватар haber-x
maybe as a present
аватар ollennka
A gift of alcohol to strangers?))) A fantastic idea for a vacation.
Sale? Even more fantastic, given the duty-free allowance for alcohol.
аватар haber-x
why unfamiliar? a present for acquaintances just right ... or to the staff, if they deserve it ... and the baggage allowance ... well, not a box to carry)) we had to observe comical situations in the market when tourists tried to barter))
аватар ollennka
Judging by the question, the author has no acquaintances in Turkey, otherwise she would know for sure whether her acquaintances are indifferent to Romanian (?!) vodka or not. The hotel staff are not familiar people, it is indecent to give him alcohol, especially since there is a generally accepted form of gratitude for the service - a tip.
And did the tourists gain a lot on barter? Five bucks?
аватар Igor_m
Romanian vodka is bad, don't bring it... and don't drink it.
аватар haber-x
ollennka, we did not wait for the results of the barter, so I cannot answer your questions. Regarding the presence of acquaintances of the author, it is also not clear. Perhaps she wanted to bring a present, but as a surprise, so to speak, without asking preferences. why not? People often ask on the forums - what to bring as a gift to the Turks? This question might be from the same thread.

By the way, about the staff and tips - at our reception they specifically asked about cigarettes, and did not hint at a tip. Since we were resting at the hotel not for the first time and we were given the keys to 6 rooms to choose from, allowing us to see them ourselves, we were happy to "treat " the requested cigarettes.
аватар nataha33
We took inexpensive cigarettes to Turkey and used them in the lobby instead of tips. The waiters rushed to serve us! Seriously! As far as I understand, cigarettes are very expensive in Turkey. Therefore, you can take a couple of blocks with you. ;)
аватар haber-x
Well! And I'm talking about the same thing)) We took cigarettes that we smoke ourselves (not cheap), but we took them with a margin, knowing that"shooters " would be enough, and it would be possible to present. On their own initiative, they presented it to the waiters and bartenders who paid attention to us - everyone was happy.
аватар ollennka
Tipping with cigarettes is, sorry, FU! Especially if you start shove cigarettes to a non-smoker.
No need to pinch the tip (if you really liked the service), for 5-6 bucks the waiter (if he is a smoker) will buy cigarettes for himself, which ones he likes.
аватар haber-x
Forgive me, but if we"shoot " cigarettes all the time, it is clear that they are smokers-I'd rather give them a pack than they will ask for a cigarette!

What do you have all fu then? And vodka and whitefish)))? Every year we take a couple of bottles with us for presents to Turkish friends, they respect her very much. We eat together, we have a snack, they have a red bull. And our cigarettes are constantly asked for, their price and quality are very bad. Barter is unlikely, but to debug new acquaintances, you will not regret it. I don’t remember how much to carry, you can look on the net, but we once carried five bottles in a suitcase, no one said anything. Plus, essno in a dutik stocked up for a loved one. We usually take 4 blocks of cigarettes for two from home, plus we also bribe in the dutik, as they constantly shoot, and the consumption on vacation is more.
аватар ollennka
With friends - for God's sake. Fu - this is when they save on tips in this way.
аватар Olgaolga153
And what about tip savings? Tipping in general can not be given, this option is voluntary, not mandatory. And as they say, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Therefore, I see nothing wrong with leaving a pack of cigarettes as a gift to a conscientious waiter, especially since, as they say above, the quality of Turkish cigarettes leaves much to be desired.
аватар ollennka
Olgaolga153, above haber-x and nataha33 directly write that they used cigarettes INSTEAD of tips.
Gifts are wonderful when you know a person and you know that he smokes. A non-smoker such a"gift " can offend.
Gift etiquette exists. And then you can bring a batch of underpants and give underpants to the waiters. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
аватар haber-x
ollennka, do not compose - in my comments it is not written that they gave INSTEAD of tips - it is written that they were PRESENTED at the request in one case, and voluntarily, seeing interest, in the second
аватар ollennka
haber-x, I understand correctly that you not only treated the employees to the requested cigarettes, but also left a tip for the staff (for the choice of 6 rooms you liked)?
аватар haber-x
I'll explain again. We were ASKED for cigarettes at the reception, and we gave them - we did not offer cigarettes as a tip ourselves, you know? Waiters and bartenders were presented with packs of cigarettes after they "shot" piece))
аватар ollennka
Then I don’t see a fundamental difference with saving on tips. But if it is more convenient for you to call it a gift, we will consider it a gift.
аватар haber-x
The guy from the reception recognized us, we rested in this hotel several times, so there is nothing wrong with his request, in my opinion - yes, he is not a friend, of course, but not a stranger))
аватар haber-x
ollennka, apparently, in your opinion, in response to a request for cigarettes at the reception, we had to answer the guy that we don’t have cigarettes for him, but we will give him currency - right?))
аватар Olgaolga153
We also always leave a small chocolate bar and a dollar for the maid, regardless of the quality of cleaning. I don't see anything wrong with that. Leaving a pack of cigarettes for a woman would definitely not be thought of. And the guy (if he doesn’t smoke) will find where to attach this pack, they are all smart there.))) Distributing 5-6 dollars to the right and left is not always financially possible, even if you want to. I'm not making excuses, I just painted a portrait of the average tourist. I myself relate to such and do not find anything humiliating in this for both sides. Maybe there is not enough culture, sorry, not from the counts.
аватар ollennka
Guys, I do not urge anyone to leave a tip if they are undeserved or there is no financial opportunity. I am only against replacing the tips deserved by the staff with a natural product, especially one as ambiguous as cigarettes.
аватар ziskin
For themselves, they carried both a liter and 2 in plastic, no one checked in the luggage. Also on cigarettes.
