Firstly, I wish the girls to have fun there, the idea of the tour is great!
It is difficult to advise without knowing preferences and budgets. I have a dream to live in Istanbul for at least a couple of nights at the Isiklar Palace Hotel, but there the price is like for an airplane wing. From general practical advice: use public transport boldly, it is cheap, especially if you buy a travel card, and traffic jams, according to reviews, have been reduced by the city authorities. Try Turkish cuisine, including street food, it's really delicious. Do not settle far from the center, it is better to choose the Sultanahmet area. Take things for both the heat and the cold, the weather in Istanbul is very unstable. And if we continue the topic of the weather, then I personally would prefer not the end of March, but the end of April-May for a trip.

Support in the Sultanahmet area
Book a hotel in the Sultanahmet area, for example, I stayed at the Citadel Hotel several times now this
Radisson Hotel Istanbul Sultanahmet
the hotel is located in the old wall of Constantinople. Walk 10 minutes if slowly to Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, 30 minutes walk through the old city to the Egyptian Bazaar and the same way to Gulhane Park. And many more places of interest within walking distance.
It’s also necessary to buy a Müze Kart for Istanbul, you definitely don’t have to queue with it at Hagia Sophia and Topkapi, I just bought it at the Topkape box office
Müze Kart saves on museum tickets

We ourselves would like in April, but the stars converge for everyone at the end of March, we are 5 people. I saw a proposal for a tourist card for 3-5-7 days, it seems like there are museums and transport, I’ll still read about it

Is it worth it to rent a car there, or will we have something to fill 5 days in Istanbul ourselves?

1. Live as close as possible to the fountain in Sultanahmet
2. Buy istanbul card
3. Visit one of the princely islands, this can be done on a boat
4. Walk around the evening Ortakoy district on the waterfront
5. Visit Topkapi, Basilica Cistern and Dolmabahce
6. Find parrots in Gulhane Park
7. Taste Iskander kebab and Taysti Kebab
8. Take a ride on a public ferry and feed the seagulls with bread during the crossing
9. Walk down Isteklal Street from Taksim Square down
10. Eat freshly prepared Ekmek Balik from the boat, which is located to the left of the Galati bridge
11. Get drunk on orange and pomegranate juices
12. Walk through the hills and parks of Uskudar

In Istanbul itself, it will be difficult with a car due to large traffic jams. Personally, I would spend all 5 days in Istanbul

cgistalker wow! Thank you very much! I will read about everything!

I will tell you a little about my actions, if you do not mind, maybe you can correct something! I found the hotel 600 meters from Topkapi, 2.7 km from Taksim Square, the hotel has a rating of 8.7, although it is quite inexpensive, but 1400 good reviews, I’ll look at the hotel again, there is free cancellation until March 17, it’s called Viva Deluxe Hotel, family room, just for 5 people

The location of the hotel is good.

I want chorba again, but I wouldn’t refuse iskender kebab (considered the king of kebabs in Turkey). You can add thirty points to Andrei’s list, or you can not add it, I like this alignment. Set priorities, make a route for the first couple of days. The hotel is in the right place, bargain at the Egyptian Bazaar and the Grand Bazaar, and best of all, try more and highly praise both the goods and the seller - they all understand both Russian and Ukrainian well. For leather and other "rags" in the Laleli area - 2.5 km from your hotel, but I would not spend money on it. Your transport is foot, tram and, sometimes, subway.
Everything that we advise you here is pure truth and you can use any advice.
From myself: for a long time I have been choosing a hotel two or three kilometers from the "vile" places, to which I get on foot along non-tourist trails, where you can see the real life of the city, it is always interesting to me. Good luck to you, let the trip to Istanbul become a reality.

Teysti Kebab, tas kebab - beef or lamb stew, in pots and not in them. But how to cook....!
аватар Igor_m
Of course, you don’t have to go anywhere from Istanbul, even to Bursa, where the “homeland” of Iskender kebab is located.

Somehow I love Adana more, I have never seen these iskanders and have never tried them. On the grill, dishes come out cooler from the Turks, it seems to me.

Thank you all for the answers, the hotel is booked, the plane tickets too, all this cost about 120 euros per person, there are still costs for the test and insurance! Can someone tell me the best way to get from the airport - by taxi, order a transfer at the hotel or by bus?
аватар cgistalker
By taxi you will most likely be thrown for money, better in another way.
Istanbul and taxis are incompatible things in this regard)))))

Look, I've had great experiences with Istanbul taxis in recent years. In 2010, yes, I remember, they drove in circles to increase the price. In 2015, the picture is already completely different: they drive according to the meter, the shortest road, there are no attempts to turn on the night rate during the day, the drivers are extremely neat and polite.
If the hotel is located a stone's throw from a bus/metro stop, I would take public transport for a change. If it's far away, I recommend a taxi.
