And how do you feel about travel agencies that offer sightseeing tours of the city? Does it make sense to contact them if we only have two full days in Istanbul (1st day - evening arrival, 4th - morning departure)? I have a Plan Tours booklet lying around.
Approximate prices:
1 tour: Ai Sophia / Blue Mosque / Hippodrome / Grand Bazaar (half day) - 35 euros.
2nd tour: Topkapi / Rustem Pasha Mosque (half day) - 35 euros.
Round 3: Combines the above 2 + lunch (all day) - 70 euros.
4. Cruise on the Bosphorus + Rumeli Hisari (half day) - 35 euros.
5. Dolmabahce + observation deck (half day) - 35 euros.
6.Princesvy islands - 65 euros.
And a bunch of "exclusive" options on a yacht, helicopter, etc.

IMHO, Istanbul is not the city to use the services of agencies for sightseeing. Many sights are within walking distance, what's further - by taxi and public transport.

I would like to listen to the guide's story, if the tours of the agencies are sensible and interesting, and not formal like "look right and left, come in, I'm waiting for you here", in English or Russian. When I visit on my own, I'm afraid I will miss many nuances or not notice, even if I read a lot of literature first.

A guide is subjective. Download the Afisha (Afisha) publishing guide to Istanbul (or any other) online, get more extensive information. And save money.

I agree with the issue of excursions. I downloaded and study the legendary Afisha guidebook, but still I really like to listen to a good guide!)) so I thought to take at least one - preferably a sightseeing - tour of Istanbul. and not in order to show Hai Sophia to me, I can do it myself, and I still have notes from the history of culture))) but I want to learn more from the guide about the life and life of the Turks. Advise a good proven guide, interesting! and, if possible, Russian-speaking! Thanks a lot!

We took a sightseeing tour with a boat ride on the Bosphorus and another one with a visit to the Mosaic Museum in Theodore Church and Dolmabahce Palace. The tour bus picked us up directly from the hotel and brought us back (or dropped us off where we asked). Excursions lasted half a day, so there was also enough free time :)

My God, yes, you can say that about any city! Naturally, we will study ourselves, but who will replace us?))) but if you are personally opposed to guides, or you just haven’t come across talented representatives of this profession, then ... this is not the case for everyone! I love excursions, I love to communicate with interesting people, so why not take a good guide in Istanbul for one day? for example, LaFifa advised me exactly the Turkish guides who speak Russian. what could be better?

In our case, there was a walking tour with a tour of the Hippodrome Square, a visit to the Blue Mosque (free admission), Hagia Sophia (admission is paid, in the cost of the tour), a visit to the Spice Bazaar, the Bosphorus Cruise (in the price of the tour), Editepe Hill, and a visit Topkapi Palace (admission is paid, included in the cost of the tour), where we wandered until the end of the day. Topkapi - deserves a whole separate day. But with a guide, of course, it was very interesting. Of the excursions, I would especially advise you to take the one that includes a visit to the Dolmabahce Palace (when visiting without a guide, 90% of information content is lost) and the Mosaic Museum (the museum is small, but the mosaics in it are truly unique and of stunning beauty. The Turks specially covered them with boards (in church converted into a mosque should not have images of people) and was opened only to display high-born guests from the Christian world.Other attractions (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome Square, Topkapi, Basilica Cistern) are at a short distance from each other and are concentrated in the Sultanahmet area.You can easily explore them yourself with the help of a guidebook.I will now send you some "tips" in a personal message.
