I really wanted to go to Thailand, but there was not enough money, so we flew to the cheapest hotel in Thailand (Caesar Palace 3 *) in the cheapest resort (Pattaya). And the hotel was great! Everything is licked, the staff is polite, even someone at the reception spoke English (Thais don’t speak English at all. Although it seems to them that they speak :-) but you only hear "meow-meow-meow" ...) , food we had only breakfast (this is enough, everything is cheap there).
