In Nha Trang, of course, it is much cheaper, only in comparison with Phuket there is nothing to do. From Phuket you can go on 2 fabulous excursions - Phi Phi Islands (excellent snorkeling with colorful fish) and Krabi Tour + James Bond. And also in Patong there is all the flavor of Pattaya. And Thai massages! is complete relaxation.
Here I found a link for excursions in Phuket http://online-phuket.ru/excursii-na-phukete
Just keep in mind that Phuket is a humid subtropics, in December every day after 16.00 there was a tropical downpour, and the air humidity was about 100%.
After Thailand, it is generally difficult to relax anywhere in terms of impressions and emotions.

The first time I hear about tropical daily showers in December in Phuket. Actually, from the end of November, the high season begins in Thailand, including in Phuket. Of the islands, only on Koh Samui, on the contrary, there is little rain in summer, and more in winter. I haven’t been to Thailand in December, but they say December is the most comfortable temperature for Europeans, not so hot. In general, heat and humidity are bearable: there are air conditioners in hotels and shopping centers, and on excursions in buses too. There are 7/11 shops with air conditioners and bottled water at every step.

We were in Phuket from 7.12 to 25.12. Every day it was raining, but very short, 5-10 minutes and again the sun, life is beautiful!

Well, actually, the question was about comparing the prices of two holiday destinations, and not about the weather in Phuket in December :-)
Phuket, even in Thailand itself, is considered an expensive vacation spot. I don't remember the daily rains in December and January.

Was in Thailand in 2016. in Phuket 2012 and in Pattaya and was in Vietnam. In Vietnam I was in 2 places (MUI 2013 and Nha Trang 2016). to 3 dongs. In Tae it was 1 to 2 respectively in April 2016. I like Vietnam better and the climate is better. Nha Trang cannot be compared with Pattaya in terms of the sea! In Pattaya, the mud in Nha Trang is the cleanest sea, even in the city where we rested. Not to mention the excellent beaches like Zoklet - "Vietnamese bounty" and "Vietnamese Maldives" - Winpearl. There is no such humidity as in Tae. It is better tolerated. I really like Vietnam. There were also in Thailand in Phuket everything is much more expensive and excursions are not cheap. From Pattaya we went to the islands ourselves. It turned out much cheaper than taking an excursion. Shopping in Pattaya was cheaper to buy their cotton beach clothes. So who cares about the taste and color .. as they say ..! You choose. The food is about the same and there and there is cheaper there is more expensive! But everywhere 100% the quality of the dishes! The fruits are pretty much the same.

And there and there rest is not cheap. The cost of a ticket from Moscow is from about 60.0t.r. for 2 (approximately) + at least 1000 dollars with you. If you want to eat. Go on excursions..etc. Or even more. Especially in Phuket. It was more expensive to Similans in 2012 there was an excursion for 2 days about 7500 rubles for rubles THIS 2012 !!! Now I don't know how much So for 2, count how much 1 cool tour is also en Phi Phi. Krabi can be a little cheaper on them. But not for 1000. ! That's for sure! One zoo in Pattaya was for 1 person in March-April 2016 (we rested at this time this year) was 980 rubles. You could say it was cheap. So this is not a cheap vacation. There are only breakfasts. You buy the rest yourself!

I was neither in Nha Trang nor in Phuket, I went to read. But I really want to ask - $ 1000 is for how many people and how many days did you spend in Vietnam, if the main expenses are already covered by a ticket of 60 thousand rubles? I spent $1,500 in 18 days in Vietnam, including a visa, insurance, housing, food, excursions, taxis, all movements around the country from south to north, including 5 flights. Also including the road Moscow-Ho Chi Minh City-Moscow with transit in Beijing for the whole day. And then, because they went to the beach in Fukuoka, and there are expensive hotels. Is Nha Trang more expensive than Fukuoka? Or what is expensive in Vietnam? Where is it cheaper?

I haven’t been to Fukuoka, I can’t compare and say .. I wrote the prices - departure from Moscow (it was mid-March 2016) ... you don’t know where? And, accordingly, you need to know where and what to compare .... And then, to each his own .. according to their needs. Someone who can spend $200 to rest and shop for ex. go .. all people are different and everyone has different needs ..!

For how many people and for how long? Did you include shopping in this figure?
Which country do you think is cheaper than Vietnam?
аватар lysenko.lau1
I support nataustinova, though I haven’t been to Vietnam, but in June 2014 in Pattaya and in March 2016 in Phuket we spent 700 dollars per person for 2 weeks, this is in addition to the cost of vouchers. In Pattaya for 14 days were on 5 excursions, of which two were 2-day, shopping is the easiest (souvenirs, beachwear, creams, tea, fruits). In Phuket for 12 days were only Similans and 11 islands for 2 days, the same shopping plus some pearls. There were hardly any massages. We eat in Thai cafes and night markets, we don’t buy alcohol at all, we drink a lot of water and iced tea from 7/11. So 1000 dollars for a trip, that is, 500 dollars per person in Thailand, you must have, of course, if you go on excursions, and not lie on the beach. We ourselves always take $1,000 per person, and bring the rest home for our "next trip." Moreover, in September 2016, Israel also spent 700-800 dollars per person on 4 large excursions, lunches, dinners and souvenirs.

Nha Trang is cheaper in all respects. But it can be very uncomfortable in winter. Strong winds and rough seas with rains that are not always very warm. The weather "stabilizes" only by mid-March. Entertainment can be found everywhere, especially when visiting the country for the first time. Phuket is much more comfortable. But the price is also higher.
