in duty free I bought orchids specially packed for export, I saw the same for sale in the city, there are no problems with them, I don’t know about the rest .. they were not in the ground, but in a special gel ..

Theoretically, flowers cannot be exported from any country. Arrange in the form of a bouquet and transport, but the earth cannot be exported in any case.

Everything is possible. Don't dig the ground just hard. Orchids were taken out by themselves a dozen times. The wife loves them very much. And from the markets and just like that - torn off shoots. Edible pasiflora (aka passion fruit), different types of ferns, lianas, flowers.... Don't listen to "horror stories " about the prison, just don't advertise and don't collect a lot of land... Buy a cup of coconut flakes. Or just wrap it in a damp cloth. Everything else rolls easily. No one is interested in twigs at customs. Here are large shells or stones, if pointedly, can cause discontent and misunderstanding. Formally, everything belongs to the king. From the fruits of plants, durians and whole coconuts cannot be. Allegedly, the first one stinks, and the second ones are not X-rayed and can be used as containers for smuggling. And it is right. Eat durian there, to your health, because there it doesn’t stink at all, but here there is already enough stink, and coconuts in our banana republic, well, it’s just unmeasured. This is clearly not something worth bringing from paradise... Good luck! ;-)

JeryLee, how's the passion fruit? Has taken root on Siberian soil?

I have repeatedly brought plants across the border from different countries - from Morocco, from Cyprus, from Greece, from Poland, from the States, from the Maldives.
I have the following technology - I take a small shoot or a plant with a root, and store it in an ordinary plastic PET bottle of small volume. I put a damp cloth in the bottom of the bottle, put the plant through the neck with the root down so as not to break the branches, flatten the bottle so that it takes up less space, and tighten the lid. I always carry it in my luggage, and not in hand luggage, sometimes 2-3 bottles at once, and 2-3 plants in each.

What happens next with the plants? How do you grow them?

If without a root, then I put it in water and wait until the roots appear. Then I plant it in the ground and water intensively for the first months. If the plant has a root, then immediately into the ground. There is also a special liquid, a rooting agent, which accelerates the eruption of roots.
According to my statistics, about half take root, and about half survive to a year of age.
The most important thing is not to blame yourself if you die :-)

Do they grow in an apartment?

To take root, it is important to pluck the stiff shoot of the plant, and not fresh, bright and transparent. I am sure that it is very difficult to take root a flowering plant, because. flowering is a very resource-intensive process for the body. I always cut off the extra leaves, leaving 2-3-5 pieces. Most importantly, the trunk, the leaves are an extra load during the period when the plant is fighting for life, growing new roots.
I try to plant the plant at least approximately in the same type of soil where it grew. If you took it from the sand, then you do not need to plant it in black soil, and vice versa.
Succulents and all sorts of steppe and heat-resistant species take root well.

Ollennka. I live in Zelenograd. This is Moscow. Not Siberia. A house in a village in the Tver region, on the Volga. Nothing exotic naturally grows in the village all year round. Passiflora (passion fruit) has time to bloom in summer, but naturally does not bear fruit. Of all that was brought, only mountain pine from Turkey took root on the site. Another pineapple is a rare thorn in terms of its scum and survival rate. He will go under the snow, shed all the leaves, and in the spring he will give them again. But the fruit will not work. not enough sun and no pollinators. Therefore, it is useless and dangerous for small children - they can be severely cut by leaves. And flowers and other exotic only in the apartment grow all year round. :-)

JeryLee, sorry, confused you with some other forum member from Krasnoyarsk))).

Ollennka. Everything is fine. It was written in my passport for almost 30 years that I was born just in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. And only subsequent research by our inquisitive authorities showed that it was the Irkutsk region after all. :-))) So I'm not the first time and not at all offended. After all, there is some truth in what you say. ;-)

Wow so many tips, thank you so much! I'll try to transport it in a bottle with a wet rag.

The main thing is to stop in time, otherwise beloved friends have collected seeds, now they are longingly thinking how to drag these palm trees at least to work, they have grown to the ceiling in five years. It’s easier with orchids, they don’t need any bottles, a wet wipe is enough and everything is in a plastic bag
