Tipping - to give or not to give?
Hello! I would like to know about tips, as we are going to Turkey with my husband for the first time. Is it necessary to give money?
- upon check-in, so that there is a normal room (in the reviews, many write that they did not give it and everything was OK);
- for daily cleaning of the room (acquaintances left every day, but someone's hair and a cigarette butt near the bed lay until the end of the holiday);
- bartenders, waiters, minibus drivers, etc.
In general, to WHOM and HOW MUCH to tip, so as not to spoil your vacation? Thank you all in advance!

We were in Turkey last year. At first, they didn’t know what to give to whom. Now I can advise you:
- upon check-in, it is desirable to give 10 c.u. - the number will be much better than the one that you will be offered initially. Still, don’t say anything, but it’s more pleasant to wake up in a room overlooking not a Turkish trash can, but a beach or a pool;
-we did not leave for cleaning, although sometimes you can 1 c.u. leave, they will make you a flower or a swan out of towels;
- bartenders and waiters - do not need to leave, but drivers can leave 1 c.u., especially if these are long-distance excursions, you need to thank.
Stay positive and you will have a great vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply shedevrik! Only here, when you check in, you need to give 10 c.u. for two or one person?

on one, you will live for everyone))))))))
but this amount is approximately, it can be 15-20 USD, it seems to me 10 USD. enough ;)

We rested in Kemer in August 2009. When settling in one passport, they put 10 USD. I don’t know, maybe it’s not enough, or such decent workers at the reception, but the dollars were defiantly returned back and they gave an excellent number without any requests, You can leave the maids or you can not. Unlike Egypt, women clean up. And they are often dissatisfied with something, or, being Eastern women, they complain about their fate as a workhorse. We noticed some minor dirty tricks, especially on the first day when they forgot to leave a dollar, and then it was all normally and without money. The drivers were almost always left, the waiters did not make sense to leave, because we were resting in a large hotel, there were a lot of people and waiters, you won’t remember everyone. And there erase the situation.

if you want a better number then 10-20u.e is enough
pay to have it exchanged
if for maids / porters / waiters, then 1-2 c.u. is enough

You can also tip bartenders. Despite the fact that the hotel is large and there are a lot of people, they will remember you, and this, in turn, will speed up the service. And in the future, he will not stop standing near the bar, waiting for his turn. In a word, do not skimp on tips, the rest will be more pleasant.

Now the hotel usually gives 20 dollars upon check-in, and once they leave 2-3 dollars on a pillow for the maid. It is not necessary to give every day. But it’s impossible not to give at all - a sign of bad taste.

Yes, everything is simple - everyone loves money. if you want to be "licked" - sweeten people's lives. 20 bucks in the passport will "correct" the number, 1 dollar for the maid - and there is always a fresh wolf, flowers, etc., in short, they work off the tip. Advice - in Turkey, everything is the same price (for example, a massage costs 20, so you can give 20 bucks, or you can 20 euros. Naturally, it’s cheaper in bucks)

as for "on arrival" - it all depends on the hotel. once we paid nothing and got a decent room. and last year we were blatantly extorted $40 for a sea view. and it was said loudly and directly.
as for the bartenders and waiters, they are half-poor people and are always happy with an extra penny and will be worn with you like with a written sack. BUT! First of all, don't overdo it! secondly, there is an alternative: instead of money, we treated them to cigarettes (there is 5 dollars a pack). for a couple of cigarettes you will always be welcome!
but in general, smile, be more positive, do not shout and do not scandal - and everything will be fine! have a nice rest!
