What you need to know about a bus tour to Bulgaria? What to be ready for?
We took a trip to Albena for 2 weeks. The road by bus Kyiv-Sizopol (probably, we don’t really know yet). We read in the reviews how bad everything is in these buses. What should you take with you? What is on the buses? What are the conditions of transportation? What are the best places to choose? 26 hours drive is a lot. I'm waiting for tips - we're going to the sea for the first time by bus - air has become very expensive. Thank you.

I didn’t go to Bulgaria, but I had to go to St. Petersburg. We also went for a day, we took food with us (it’s better to take a cooler bag at bus stops, everything is expensive, more drinking) This is a tiring business, bus travel over long distances.
аватар Alisa-Asol
cooler bag - good advice - thanks.
аватар irina_1901
I didn't go, but I know that the bus stops every 3 hours to use the toilet and have a snack. Everyone advises taking small euros or dollars to eat in Romania, where toilets are paid. We have a cooler bag, but, in my opinion, it does not keep the cold for a long time, enough for a day, if not less.
аватар galja20
take travel pillows with you - such as a horseshoe - will definitely come in handy. With food and drink it is also neat - stops are rare and there are always queues for the toilet. Basically, leaving early in the morning and arriving at the place at the same time, maybe even faster - Albena is one of the first stops in Bulgaria. Legs swell from prolonged sitting and may start to hurt or cut the stomach - be sure to take a first aid kit.

Hello, what route does the bus take?
аватар Natassha_Kiev
just arrived from Bulgaria to Kyiv, 22 hours on the way (I was driving from Ruse). I traveled in a minibus. The main thing. what's hard is the night. But I had a free seat next to me and I slept peacefully. Don't worry, you'll survive somehow! I will support good advice.
аватар irina_1901
Natassha, isn't it better to get to Lviv by train? Yes, I also remembered that they advise you to take a blanket, if possible. Useful at night.
аватар Natassha_Kiev
yes, the blanket is good, I was saved by a blanket kindly provided by the driver))) You can go to Chernivtsi (they are closer than Lviv to the border), but as I understand it, everything has already been bought from the author

The road is well tolerated. All tips are sound. Take food not perishable. Standard dry ration. Sometimes drivers make a stop to eat in a cafe on the territory of Ukraine somewhere near Moldova. Take a thermos with coffee - tea. A flask of cognac also does not interfere with an early arrival. Take some entertainment on the road - a tablet, games, a book. We were most exhausted by the night customs. It is necessary to raise the seat, open your eyes so that the appearance matches the photo in the passport. And so you can night and flows. The savings are significant. True, everyone says that we have no roads left at all, but the travel time will also increase. This year we are going by car to Golden Sands. I will share my impressions. Have a nice rest!!!

endure the night. .. does not fix

about roads: we regularly travel to Bulgaria and back by car, we always go through Chernivtsi, the road is good. It seems to be closer through Odessa, but there is a very bad road on the Reni-Izmail section, there are pits, holes, horror. Now eheli from Bulgaria through Yassy-Kishinev-Ataki (border checkpoints in Moldova) and Mogilev-Podolsky-Vinnitsa-Kyiv. Roads in Moldova and Ukraine on this section are good and fast

We traveled from Dnepropetrovsk to Sozopol, about 30 hours. Very difficult. My legs are very swollen, so I do not recommend drinking a lot. They took the pillow, but did not use it, I tried it - I did not like it, it was not convenient. We didn’t take much food, because of the heat we didn’t want to eat. It was not cold on the bus, a thin blouse was enough. At night, all the windows were closed because there were a lot of mosquitoes. It was stuffy because of the closed windows. In general, of course, you can endure the road, but I will no longer risk traveling so far by bus. I support the advice to take small currency, in Romania toilets are paid.
аватар 19062005
Natasha, thanks for your advice. We live in the Dnieper, and through Chernivtsi the circle is still the same. We will go through Odessa
аватар Igor_m
19062005, then go not to Izmail, but to Vinogradovka - at least make the path a little easier, you will be able to enter Romania faster. The road from Vulcanesti to Giurgiulesti is bad, but only 50 km, and maybe it was repaired.
Allah, and you have patience and patience again! In 1999 my girls traveled from Obzor to Kyiv for 36 hours, carried the half-dead out of the bus in their arms.

here is the route .. Kiev - Zhytomyr - Vinnitsa - Khmelnitsky - Kamenetz Podolsky - Chernivtsi - moving through Moldova / Romania - Bulgaria
we’ll get there - everything will be fine - we’ll take everything that was advised - people go there ...

We traveled in 2013 from Kyiv through Chernivtsi, Romania to Golden Sands. We drove a day at 8.00 from Kyiv and at 11.00 already near the hotel)))) although the border with Romania passed for 3 hours. Take sandwiches on the first day (they won’t have time to disappear), cognac))) water, crackers, fruits, a horseshoe pillow and a towel or blanket (it’s cool at night, they turn on air conditioning), comfortable shoes, trampled))) (swelling feet). Stops on demand at gas stations, free toilets .... there you can have a bite to eat if that. We drove through Romania at night (the toilet at the gas station is free, but you can leave a couple of coins on the table - it’s customary, you don’t have to leave ....) they didn’t eat in Romania (night)))). Legs swelled of course, but not fatally, go out and warm up at stops. In short, tolerable)))

Don't worry, it's not all that bad. I went by bus to Sunny Beach 2 times (through Chernivtsi and through Odessa), the road is 24-27 hours, as lucky. Be sure to take an inflatable pillow with you, which is worn around the neck, otherwise, you will fold your own neck there and, it helps a lot, put on something a la an inflated vest or sports jacket on the bus. As practice shows, the bus will be quite comfortable and not hot, and in summer it is difficult to freeze even at night, but it is very convenient to roll up a jacket / vest and put it under the lower back. Be careful with water, the first time we drank a lot and our legs were really swollen, the second time we tried to drink less and everything was great. And then, if you eat without children, then nothing terrible will happen to you in a day. Small money of 1 euro will be very useful to you ...
P.S. Be prepared that you will arrive before 14.00, that is, the check-in time, and you will need to wait until this very time in the hotel lobby. As an option - leave the suitcase in the luggage room at the hotel and go for a walk / swim (take all the valuables from the suitcase with you, it's more reliable).
аватар izmir
P.P.S. Check with your tour operator/look at the information sheet if you have a shuttle to the hotel or you will need to go from the common drop-off point for everyone in the resort (trust me - this is very important if you are there for the first time).

Transfer to the hotel is now more of a rarity, not the rule. When we traveled by bus, disembarkation was provided at bus stops. The bus driver helped us call a taxi. Bargain up to 50-40% of the named amount in BGN. And it is better to specify how far the hotel is located from the bus stop. Bulgarian taxi drivers are crooks.
аватар irina_1901
izmir wrote correctly. Ask about the transfer to the hotel and who is the meeting party. I know that in Albena the meeting party drives up to the bus and takes them to hotels. Albena is a closed resort, buses do not go there, they will only take you to the bus station. about taxi drivers - everywhere in different ways. From the Albena bus station, taxi drivers offer to take you to the hotel at the price of a train, they themselves are asking for it. In extreme cases - a train, the bus station is the final stop, but there are two routes. Therefore, it is necessary to check with the driver that he should drive towards the Flamingo Hotel, otherwise they will be taken to the other end, to the Gergan Hotel, which is far from Amelia.
аватар ribylya
Transfer to the hotel is provided by your tour operator in Bulgaria - we were met at the drop-off stop and accompanied to the hotel, it was the same on the way back - they said when they would pick us up from the hotel and drive us to the bus departure point !!!!

Well, happy journey Write a review later, please.
аватар Alisa-Asol
thank you, you are so friendly gathering us on a hike, which is even very nice !!!!
аватар Igor_m
From the highway to your hotel is only 2 km, 3 min. ride. I'm sure you can negotiate with the driver. And the fact that Albena is a closed resort, and the passage to Golden Sands through the barrier, but everywhere I drove by car without any problems.

Traveled to Bulgaria with children by bus. The main problem is border crossing, when the bus is moving, it is pumping and you are sleeping. At the border - stand, and everyone wakes up. Since you cross 3 borders - it really strains. Although the children sleep well and they do not care. The children endured the trip very easily, it was harder for the adults. Do not take a cooler bag, it takes up extra weight and space, in fact, there is no benefit from it - the hawk does not have time to deteriorate in 1 day. I do not advise you to drink alcohol on the bus - at first it's fun, but when you start to sober up in the heat - there is little pleasure. Take plenty of water when it's hot to wash the towel and wipe yourself and the children. You don’t need to take a lot of hawka, it’s in the heat and after the night it doesn’t go to the borders. Havka can be bought at the border when you are standing, and then in the afternoon in Romania at a gas station - our children had enough ice cream, they still didn’t want to eat anything in the heat.
In general, everything is not as scary and difficult as it seems.

Can you get off the bus at the border? We have canceled the September train Varna-Minsk and also had a problem, because. we return home in september. We are thinking of going from Varna to Chisinau by bus, from 18:00 until morning. And then the train Chisinau Minsk Never traveled by bus and I don't fly. Hotels have been booked for a long time, nothing can be changed. And to sit all night without getting up - horror! The son is tall, 1.83, where will he put his legs? The first time we have this with the train.
аватар Natassha_Kiev
Poola, take your son 2 seats side by side. This is an additional cost, but convenient. Of course, you can go to the border. By the way, we can think and offer you a transfer from Bulgaria to Minsk. Individual, by minibus))) We will think about the price. We can, by the way, visit the Romanian castles, I was 2 weeks ago - to say that I am amazed is to say nothing! The Romanian Carpathians are just a miracle, we really liked it, and I have a small group of tourists going there the other day)))
аватар 19062005
Irina Poula, the buses are quite comfortable, with Conder, normal seats. My husband with a height of 190 cm fit perfectly. It was even cold at night. Plaid won't hurt.
аватар irina_1901
Natasha, thanks. But I can’t stand it until Minsk, even individually, my legs swell even on the train. We have buses from TA, our friends went. They said they don't want to, even saving 500 euros for 4 people. I now think that you can only take a bus to Bucharest, and there is a Bucharest-Chisinau train. But it’s impossible to get tickets for it from us, they don’t even know what days it goes on. Here I sit and think, maybe after all the plane. I have been to Romania 2 times, I know that there is something to see there. And I didn't like the sea. The second time we went just to watch. Thanks for the advice to take 2 places. So it will probably be easier for him.

Another question for everyone who traveled by bus: HOW do children endure this road? 4-5 years? I think it's hard with children? how do they survive 26 hours on the bus?? the granddaughter asks to come with us, she is 5 years old, I'm afraid the small one will probably also get sick????
