I can only advise where he lived - Marina Palace.
1. Close to the old town
2. The sea is right under the window (you can hear the sound of the waves)
3. Stop 20m from the hotel
4. Large and well maintained rooms

Nessebar has a good Sol chain. These are hotels Sol Mare 4*, Sol Bay 4*, Sol Palace 5*. They are all next to each other, all are very good for families with children, but I advise you to choose Sol Mare.

Nessebar is a small town, wherever you stop, it will be good everywhere. With children, it is probably better to stay in the new part of the city. Closer to st. Father Paisios. It is quiet here and cheaper than in old Nessebar, there is also a good supermarket here. From here, in about the same time, you can get to the city beaches of Nessebar and the beaches of Sunny Beach. From my own experience: we rested two years in a row at the Menambria Hotel, but now it has turned into a glamorous hotel "Melnitsa". Last year we stayed in a private hotel in the Old Town, we didn't like it very much, because it's a long way to stomp to the beach... In May of this year we stayed at Marietta Palace. Good hotel, modern, good location on the roof of the hotel there is a swimming pool, if you are too lazy to go to the beach, you can "protrude" there :) My friends last year stayed in "Kotva", which is formally located in Sunny Beach, but in practice - on the border Nessebar. From "Kotva" to Old Nessebar 3 min. by bus or 20 min walk. "Kotva" is a paradise for children, the hotel has a free water park for guests and the beach is close :)

We prefer Ravda - the private sector. Near Nessebar and SB.

In the new city - definitely ANYWHERE. The place is terrible, no better than Sunny Beach, the prices are the same. We lived in the Old Town - in the hotel "Monte Cristo" (unfortunately, there is no description of this hotel), officially 2+ stars. Wonderful location: in the center of the old city, but a little hidden - so there are much fewer tourists there than on the main streets. 10 meters from the hotel - there are two churches of the 13th century. Very clean: towels changed every day, bed also very often. Pleasant staff. But there are 2 minuses: firstly, the breakfasts are rather poor, but you can survive it; secondly, the beach in the Old Town is lousy: one - where the shell rock is, is so located that there was never a calm during the 11 days of our stay in Nessebar - there was always a storm. The second "beach" is concrete slabs, it is always calm there, but the prospect of lying on concrete somehow did not smile.
I repeat: this was not a problem for us, we went to Ravda (fortunately, a bus runs every 15-20 minutes, it takes about 10 minutes to go there).
We went swimming in Ravda. Generally

In Ravda, by the way, prices are much lower, and the place is nicer than in the new Nessebar. So I am for Ravda or Old Nessebar, but not for new Nessebar and not Sunny Beach.

I think that WITH CHILDREN, in Old Nessebar it is definitely not worth stopping :) For children, the main thing is the beach, and in the old town it is practically absent.
