This year I haven’t been to Bulgaria, but before that I went for more than one year (little things changed with each trip). Golden Sands is the best resort in Bulgaria (in my opinion). You can pay by card, but in a very limited number of stores. For example, shops next to "Admiral". There are ATMs, mainly Raiffeisenbank, as well as the possibility of withdrawing cash from the card at exchange offices (but I did not use this service). The beach itself is clean (sand), but in the season, by the middle of the day, waste products from passing ships begin to come ashore. Prices in cafes do not vary significantly. You just need to choose the kitchen that is closer to you. Feel free to carefully look at the bill that will be brought to you. If possible, do not use a taxi, or bargain so that the price does not exceed the bus ride for two people. From Golden Sands it is much more convenient to get to Varna by bus. We rested with my son (18 years old) in Atlas 2 years ago! ... I recommend, the hotel is new, clean, calm, I don’t know about animations, we didn’t go, the buffet is very decent, although we had half board, but we lived quietly until the evening. There are a lot of Germans and Swedes in full families, so there are really a lot of small children there. The rooms are quite big. Yes! ... the hotel is on the second line from the sea, but I would not recommend going directly to the beach ... If you walk forward for five to ten minutes, you can find much decent beaches, we went to "Riviera 5".
