I'm going to Bulgaria to my husband by bus (July 18). Biometric passport, round-trip tickets, certificate of marriage with oneself. Is that enough to cross the border?

insurance is not required, but it is better to do it

Do not worry. By biometric I entered Europe 10 times for sure. Usually they just look at the passport. They may ask about the purpose of the trip. Once asked to show the ticket back. But in general, as if medical insurance, btle home and money, you should have just in case. If you'll be traveling through Romania, then keep in mind that the Romanian customs checks luggage very carefully. Cigarettes, food and alcohol. So stick to the rules. Very large staff 300 euros.
Good luck)

You do not need a marriage certificate at the border

As they say, I'm not local)) and yet ...
As for the biometric passport, it seems to me that the situation needs to be clarified with the carrier.
Despite the fact that it seems that the visa-free regime is already working to its fullest, it has already slipped more than once, and I read in the press (not Russian) that more than once passengers with tickets were refused when boarding a bus if there was no visa. Whether that's true or not, of course, I don't know.
Well, in any case, the set of documents provided to the border guards of both countries should always be clear to them. If for some border guards one set of documents in their own language is normal, then for others in another language these are no longer documents. If you have a certificate in Ukrainian, then the Bulgarians can rest against it, for them it is an incomprehensible, meaningless piece of paper.

It seems to me that for safety, you can simply book an inexpensive room on the same bookiing without prepayments and without cancellation fees in the same city where you are going, print the reservation and this should already be enough for entry without a marriage certificate.
Well, medical insurance doesn’t wake up too much, you never know. It is many times cheaper than possible unpleasant situations.
Have a nice trip to your husband.
Please drop a couple of lines here after returning, how in the end everything will work out in your case.

We arrived a week ago, biometrics are working, no need to scare a person. We traveled through five countries. Nowhere did they ask for a reservation, or the amount of money, or insurance. It is better to arrange insurance, we are sooo, alas, it came in handy. Moldovans and Romanians are only interested in the number of cigarettes they carry. Don't worry, have a good trip!

People, of course I'm wildly sorry, but does Bulgaria belong to Schengen? The visa-free regime replaces the Schengen visa, but since Bulgaria is not a member of the Schengen agreement, as far as I understand, no one has canceled the Bulgarian visa. Correct me if I misunderstood something.

In Bulgaria, as well as in the Schengen countries, you can also enter with a biometric passport, but you should take care to have additional documents with you.
These include:
- Travel medical insurance.
- Ticket home or green card when traveling in your own car.
- Cash for the duration of the trip (cash, card, traveler's checks).
- Letter of guarantee (for a business trip).
- Invitation, which indicates the address of stay, or hotel reservation.
These documents may not be required, but if they are not, the border guard may refuse entry to Bulgaria or another Schengen country.

So Ukraine was given a visa-free regime with the EU, and not just with the Schengen, and Bulgaria is a member of the EU.

I recently returned from the sea in Bulgaria, they didn’t ask for anything except a passport (Biometric), and if you have money and a ticket even back, then you’re free to go. Have a good trip.

Twenty-five again. Ukrainians who have a biometric passport may forget the word "Schengen". It can be used to enter any EU country, having, of course, what andreyvip listed.
n-st-2017, Romanians will meet you first. Knowing their border guards, the option of a full check is not ruled out (probability 5%), there will be no problems on the Bulgarian border. Have a good rest, hello husband!

Let me explain. The visa regime of Bulgaria for citizens of Ukraine used to imply the need to obtain a national visa for this country through a simple procedure. Holders of a valid Schengen visa were exempted from this procedure.
After the introduction of a visa-free regime, which is equivalent in meaning to the "old" tourist Schengen visa, the Bulgarians thought and thought (there was such a period) and decided to keep the same meaning - holders of a biometric passport can enter Bulgaria without a national Bulgarian visa.

"You can use it to enter any EU country"
Yes, and to the UK?
аватар Igor_1989
kolyan_cat You need a visa for the UK.

I went to Romania through Reni .. No problems .. We were not interested in insurance, cash and did not ask where, why and for how long I was going .. Everything is very simple and human .. I took only 2 (two) packs of cigarettes !!! Don’t even think about taking a block... 1 liter of cognac.. It’s difficult to change currency in Romania on weekends.. Banks don’t work.. I advise you to replenish your foreign currency account at home and use the card without any problems in Romanian shops, cafes, crossings, fares, etc. ...The visit was in August 2017.. Good luck..
