We are going to Sozopol in June 2011. Our currency is dollars. It just so happened :). It seems to me that it is economically unprofitable to convert dollars into euros in Ukraine, then to change euros into levs in Sozopol. So we go with dollars. Actually, the question is - with a budget of $ 600 for two for 10 days, will we not feel disadvantaged in terms of food and buying small souvenirs? I would like to wave once more to Nessebar. My wife and I rested in Old Nessebar itself, in the second half of June (private hotel, respectively, without any pre-foreseen meals). In the total amount, for 7 days, we kept within about $ 500, but. . . These words "small souvenirs" in Bulgaria take on a completely different meaning. . . we practically did not count on money for them, but when it came to the point, we threw out about 100 euros on them (which we do not regret at all). Regarding nutrition: on the first day, study the menu and find a restaurant to your liking. We found one in the center of Old Nessebar (with a sea view is an order of magnitude more expensive), where you can easily eat for about 10-15 lev (5-7 euros). In general, you can go to their supermarket "Mladost" (I don't know about Sozopol, but Nessebar definitely has it), and buy quite a lot for a moderate sum.

We took 1650 euros with us, brought home 850, didn’t deny ourselves anything, took 2 excursions: to Varna and the Valley of Roses (I highly recommend) tours on excursions, buy not in a hotel, but on a tour. agencies on the streets of the city - it will be cheaper. in August we also go to Sozopol to this hotel. Hi all! Well, we are back from vacation. No words! Full delight! 11 days of paradise and a lot of fun. Okay, more on that in another review. On the merits of the question. Euro in Sozopol as of 19.06.11 banks bought at different rates. Above all, the rate was at the bank "Alliance" on May 1st - 1.95 UAH. Other banks have lower - 1.93, 1.92 UAH/€. Dollars were accepted at 1.35 UAH. - "Alliance" and next to it two more banks for 1.33, 1.31 UAH. respectively. This is without commission, of course. In other exchangers (not banks), we did not even try to change, although I took a look at them: euro - 1.90 hryvnia, dollar - 1.30 hryvnia. At the same time, the commission must have been concealed somewhere.
In short, Mr. AlexVovk was absolutely right in his advice - to go to Sozopol with euros, not dollars, for which many thanks to him. The euro is indeed stable, while the dollar is rapidly declining. The location is very good. Beach - clearly across the road down to the sea, no more than 3 minutes walk. Moreover, you do not get to the common Harmanite, but a separate piece of it, separated by a small stone cliff. The beach is nice and quite clean. There are umbrellas and deck chairs, but at the same time there is a lot of free space, where, in fact, all the people lie under their umbrellas. The hotel stands on the edge of the new city. This is very good. On foot to the center - 5-10 minutes, to the old city - 20. But at night there is silence, no extra sounds and smells of burnt scary. The territory of the hotel is very well maintained - you will admire it! Every blade of grass and flower is well-groomed. Among this flower splendor there is a small, but normally deep pool for an adult. The water is warmer than the sea, but chlorinated. Around the pool are sunbeds and umbrellas. The first minus is the working hours of the pool from 9 to 18. Nonsense! At 18 and 19 the sun is still shining in full swing. The most buzz in the pool is to skimp. But... That's the order. Bar next to the pool. Very expensive. Prices are twice as high as in restaurants on the waterfront...

The appearance of the hotel is good. The interior cannot be called rich, but very even with a claim to prosperity. Very modern lift. The restaurant is quite spacious, interesting art style, a kind of modernism)). There is a possibility of location on an open terrace overlooking the sea. Our room was standard. Unfortunately not with sea view. Although, when we arrived, the hotel rested no more than 4 people. But our request for a room with a view of the sea, we were refused stupidly smiling. Correctly someone wrote in the reviews - the sea view is not for tourists from the CIS. In these rooms, we later observed elderly couples of Germans, Poles, and some other speakers. This is a minus, because our view was on the field. We lived on the 4th floor. Thanks to this, they did not see the utility yard, which was right there under the loggia. And although this did not interfere with sleep during the day, any household fuss, chatter of staff, loading and unloading of all sorts of things, etc., created the impression of some kind of working fuss. The exit from the room was to the loggia. Pretty spacious. Modest two plastic chairs and a table are all its content. In the early days we did not close the door, because the air conditioner (climate) did not work. Let me explain. There are only two autonomous splits (separate air conditioners) for the whole hotel.

In all other rooms of the hotel there is a single air conditioning system with the ability to control the temperature and airflow intensity from the room. On the first day, we closed the balcony and turned on this type of climate control. The temperature didn't change in an hour or two. Went to complain to reception. There, a plump blonde, more or less speaking Russian, began to freeze something about the fact that the system turns on automatically at 26 degrees, etc. In short, while 6 people lived in the hotel, the system simply did not work. We opened the window and curtained the room. So they were saved from stuffiness. And only after 3-4 days, when a sea of people came to the hotel, the system started working. Its main unit was on the roof. We heard him very well. Actually, these are the two biggest minuses - the view and stuffiness. In the rest - everything is OK. Large comfortable double bed, TV with 4 Russian channels, minibar, which we did not touch, but sometimes (only during our own stay in the room!) We used it as a refrigerator for some water. Plumbing is ok. Everything worked. There was a bath. Not a shower. Fen. Water heating in the hotel - own. Heating elements are on the roof and are heated by the sun. Therefore, in the afternoon and in the evening the water is hot.

Warm in the morning. But nothing, I shaved normally. Cleaning - day to day. Very high quality. Towels were changed either every two or three days, did not notice. On the bed every time new "pictures" of the sheets. For "art" left a day on the bed levik-two. In the room, as now almost everywhere in hotels, there is a single chip on / off the power supply. The room key hangs on a metal plate. You go into the room - put a plate into this chip, all the electricity in the room came to life. Pulled out - cut off. We came up with a trick. When the centralized air conditioner started working, leaving the room after dinner, we inserted a simple plastic card (such as a discount supermarket) into this chip, set the temperature to 15 degrees and left. Came in the evening - great! Cool, fresh! Otherwise, they would return to the steam room! The sun in the afternoon is just on the back side of the hotel until sunset. Well, this is so - purely Soviet ingenuity. The Germans would not have thought of that))).

The only food we had at the hotel was breakfast. I advise everyone who has not yet purchased vouchers - take only breakfast! No lunches and dinners in hotels! With that many restaurants and cafes, the magnificence and originality of the dishes that are 500 steps from the hotel - there is in the hotel - self-punishment. Breakfast at Sunny was the same every day! No variety. I'm sure lunch and dinner too. You can eat, you can enjoy food - no. Standard breakfast set: sliced fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, feta cheese, cheese (very thin), three types of sausages (all some cheap, tasteless), basturma, omelet, boiled eggs, slices of boiled sausages, two types of banitsa (puffs), butter , jams and chocolate mousse in mini packs. A separate bowl with cereal, muesli and Nesquik chocolate balls that could be filled with milk or yogurt.

Coffee machine (cocoa, cappuccino). Juice machine (very unnatural). Black tea, green tea, mint tea - in bags. Fill yourself with boiling water from the same coffee machine and drink. There were practically no fruits. There were always two small vases - with orange slices and hornets (melon, watermelon). Personally, I didn’t take it, I would have taken a handful of cherries - exactly one third would have remained. Such is the generous distribution of fruit. But these are trifles. Enough to eat in the morning. Although, to be honest, on the 5th day it became annoying. But in the morning it is still better to intercept at the hotel and dump on the beach than to stomp into the city for breakfast. The staff in the restaurant is unobtrusive - no one is following anyone, do not read nonsense. You can take as much as you want, no one will grab your hand. It's just that, most likely, the one who came later than you will not get it. Didn't notice any restocking. But probably still replenish - I will not fanatize and offend the hotel. We arrived at 9 am. It was free and everything was in abundance. So just don't sleep until 11 o'clock :)))).

A few more words about the staff. The lady cleaning the room is very polite and friendly. I think if I didn’t even leave her lefties, she would clean up just as well. At the reception - two girls and a boy are changing. The boy speaks English well, practically no Russian. Girls are good at asking do you speak English?, but that's all they do. It is better to try to speak Bulgarian and Russian with them. In this mix you will be understood. With a full blonde, you can speak Russian. However, ideally, you have nothing to talk to them about. You are remembered in person and the key is served without a reminder of the number, well done. They may make a remark that towels from the room cannot be taken out either to the beach or to the pool. We received such a remark, apologized and did not take it again. Otherwise, smile at each other and say hello/chao. A grey-haired uncle is constantly walking around the hotel with an important look - probably the owner. He does not greet the guests, does not smile, in short, he puffs out his cheeks more than necessary. Not annoying, of course, but somehow annoying. Could be more friendly, the client is pleased.

Therefore, we limited ourselves to a quiet and measured rest in Sozopol itself. Believe me - in the town itself there are also a lot of interesting things. Accordingly, the money was spent only on food, drinks and souvenirs. I bought my wife a couple of pairs of interesting sandals, some jewelry. They did not deny themselves food - every lunch they went to a new restaurant or cafe. Dinners were sometimes repeated in places they liked. A couple of times we just sat in cafeterias with tea and cakes. I strongly do not recommend eating food from the Duners (shawarma). Muck. You can better buy 200 grams of swell - this is a fried sprat. Pay 2 leva (1 euro). Under beer in the evening, like seeds! They didn’t drink alcohol - you understand)). But I did not part with beer. Sometimes we went to the supermarket "Bolero" to buy mineral water, juice, nuts, seeds. . . Fruit in "Bolero" is unimportant. It is better to buy them at the layouts at the entrance to the old city. Not very expensive. In general, they spent everywhere as much as they wanted, without saving. Do not believe it - they took 600 euros, spent only about 300 in 10 days. At the same time, I completely forgot, I spent about 45levs on various alcohol bought home.

Hey Kate88! Unfortunately, there is no children's corner on the territory of the Sunny Hotel. Personally, I have not seen. But there is a shallow section in the pool, I think the kids will be able to swim there. But the sea is better. Entry into the water is very gentle and shallow. An adult needs 20 meters to go into the sea to be waist-deep in water. So it's perfect for little kids. Again, sand - you can build castles and turrets from it. The kids love it. My wife and I watched with pleasure how dad and baby son carried out such “construction” every day, and mom calmly rested under an umbrella. There is an inflatable slide in the center of Harmanite beach, you can go there. See if there are other summer activities there. Circles or flippers? I think that the circles are definitely sold on the spot. Last did not see. All these little things can most likely be bought on the spot, so as not to tear your hands from luggage. Prices for beach utensils are low there. By the way, I saw a children's inflatable ring by the hotel pool!
Be sure to visit the old town area. Near the restaurant "Windmill" there is a funky children's town. There are so many attractions, different simulators, a trampoline! Children every day - the sea! It's heaven for them! Some pay, but most don't. You'll like it!

Good afternoon, Kate88. You know, I won’t answer you about the rental of a stroller in Sunny. The same applies to the rental of such a vehicle in principle in Sozopol :). Objectively speaking, you will need a stroller. Of course, the distances in Sozopol are not Kiev. And, nevertheless, you will have to walk decently and that's good. But even better, if your 1.5-year-old baby will not weigh down your arms and legs, but will calmly ride in his transport. There are a lot of strollers in Sozopol. My wife and I even admired the courage of parents who were not afraid to travel with a small child. And, on the other hand, we took note of this for the future :)). There are practically no steps in the city, well, except to the left and right of the central streets. But these are not the Potemkin Stairs of 192 steps, believe me. The city is quite hilly. But the ups and downs are gentle. If you are a typical city dweller, and even accustomed to driving in a car, like your humble servant, then after long walks in the first days you will feel a slight soreness in your legs. But it is easily removed by swimming in the sea.. And walking around Sozopol is a pleasure! So take a stroller if possible.
