In what period did you arrive, how long did you look for a hotel with free rooms, on which line from the coast did you find (where you wanted or not), a 2-3-4-5 star hotel, were you satisfied with the price-quality or not ...
It's understandable that people have different needs. Last year we rested in a 4-star hotel, everything was great, but I had to wash the floors in the room myself because the cleaners somehow didn’t pay much attention to it ... Of course, it infuriated, but it didn’t spoil our vacation!

There are usually good discounts for early bookings, everything is known in advance. You go, you settle in and REST!. No need to wander around hotels to compare prices. It's my opinion.

Perhaps my Bulgarian experience (not Golden Sands!) will be useful to you:
I found the apartments I was interested in by location, services, price at home, then
(since the vacation was long), I decided to break it into 2 parts = I booked the first part at home "non-refundable", and the second part = without payment and with free cancellation (earlier than 1 day) - I intended to rent it (without losing anything at all, I just needed booking confirmation) and find yourself the option "even better for less money" on the spot.
Arriving at the place, right from the next day I started "marketing research": there were a lot of offers (they are often displayed on boards, like restaurants), but the prices were getting higher (by 5-10 euros / night) .... For all the time I came across only one interesting price offer for a large company = not my option ... (and that’s a matter of chance, I just accidentally got into a conversation with a local grandfather, who rented a house)
On Booking there were "burning" offers = but short in terms of stay, it was not possible to pick up. As a result = left my reservation
