A question for connoisseurs of Italy - which cities are worth seeing (North of Italy)?

There is a vacation for 8-10 days in May. The choice fell on Italy. On one's own. Arrival to Venice. Departure is most likely also from Venice, and possibly from Milan (still looking at options). We want to take 4 days to Rome, Venice 2 or 3. What else is worth seeing? Florence, or maybe Turin? How many days per city? I foresee that someone will say that even a month will not be enough for Rome, let alone 4 days. However, I would like to see more. We plan to travel around the country by train.
